In today's blog post, I would like to represent the success story of Fidel Lopez from Spain. This is the second person from the same country after Santi Lopez, who joined in my online services at 23rd of February 2018.
Fidel was a passionate person with many sports activities, and he has started to train in Freediving only just 1.5 years before. His current train in the pool and his favourite disciplines were; DNF and STA, while the DYN was in his plans (not any experience with monofin before).
In the first email expressed his wish to compete in the Spanish National Championship which would take place three months later, but one of his major priorities was to improve not only his freediving performances but also to learn how to train himself more efficiently.
1ST VIDEO FEEDBACK IN DYN WITH HIS OLD TECHNIQUE ON MARCH 2018
As I wrote above, his technical abilities with the monofin were below average.
When I saw his first dynamic video, I recommended to him to do some significant changes to dramatically improve his swimming technique.
After three months of continuous training and under my supervision, he improved dramatically his dynamic swimming style but more importantly, he significantly increased the confidence for a discipline that he has never tried seriously before our collaboration.
THE FINAL FEEDBACK VIDEO ON MAY 2018, FEW WEEKS BEFORE THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.
FIRST POSITIVE FEEDBACK AND A NEW PERSONAL RECORD IN STATIC APNEA
After the first month, I received an email from him who explained to me that the training plan has positively affected, not only the energy and the performances in freediving, but also has solved the back pain problems that have plagued him for years!!
(see the picture below)
In the meantime, he expressed to me the desire to take part in one more pool competition before the major one, with the purpose to check his progress from the beginning until now.
At this point, we have already closed the second month of his training cycle.
He decided to compete in all three disciplines, and the objective was to try to be the overall winner, but most importantly to enjoy the feeling of his first competition under a customised training plan.
AND HE DID IT :)
The results from the first competition were more than enjoyable.
He managed to achieve a personal record of static apnea with 5'34 '' (previous record 5'21 '') and essential performances in the rest of the disciplines.
NATIONAL SPANISH CHAMPIONSHIP - THE FINAL POOL COMPETITION.
We decided to take part in two dynamic disciplines; DYN and DNF who achieved new personal records with 130m and 100m respectively.
It was significant progress for only three months of serious training!
DEPTH COMPETITIONS - THE NEW CHALLENGE!
After his progress in the pool, Fidel asked me to offer my advice and coaching services to improve his performances in depth disciplines too.
The depth training approach is entirely different than the pool and requires a lot of patience from the athlete and the coach to solve significant problems such as; safe depth adaptations, equalisation issues, proper technique in each discipline and so on...
He is personal best in depth was 35 meters, and he was struggling a lot to go deeper than 35 meters, due to equalisation and relaxation issues.
After a few conversations, I explained to him what was the specific plan and approach that he should follow, and I made to him a customised program based on his availability for training.
The training plan for the first two months was based on dry and pool exercises to develop his hypoxic skills and learn the Diving Reflex to respond forcefully and quickly.
Three months later, in the depth national championships, he took the third place in the FIM category with -65m with a crystal clear performance.
You can see Fidel's performance in the next link.

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION
One of the things that gave him perfect results in such a short period of time was (1) dedication, (2) consistency (3) belief in my training approach and system.
During 7-months of our collaboration, he managed to improve his personal records in the following disciplines:
DYN: 130m (old record 75m)
DNF: 100m (old record 87m)
FIM: -65m (old record 35m)
A FEW WORDS AND COMMENTS FROM FIDEL
'' I've been doing freediving for almost two years before I first contacted with Giorgos. Even after finishing the AIDA four start course, training in freediving clubs and finding information on the internet, I felt that I didn't know how to train to maximise my results.
I have increased this year the amount of, but I started to have overtraining symptoms like palpitations, insomnia, etc. As soon as I started the training with Giorgos, the symptoms disappeared even when the intensity of the training was harder than before.
The training is really complete as it covers nutrition plan, supplement guidance, exercises, dynamic and static training and, the most critical part, the in-depth knowledge of freediving training that Giorgos shares with you.
Giorgos adjusted it correctly on my level, my body shape showed a significant change in a short time, and my energy levels were much higher. After two months I won a local freediving competition where I did my PB in static.
However, the feeling of confidence in the training was the best part of that experience. I really recommend Giorgos' coaching service for every freediver who wants to improve her performances and increase her knowledge of freediving.
I feel really privileged to have the opportunity to share this experience with a top freediver and an excellent person.
One more time, I would like to thank you Fidel, who gave me the opportunity to train him in the last season! Our collaboration and communication were more than perfect!
See you next year :-)!
